Port Augusta 50th Anniversary Celebrations

THE Port Augusta Lions Club celebrated its 50-year anniversary on Saturday November 19, with about 100 people gathering at the Central Augusta Football Club.

President Dean Parish said the night went very well, with proceedings running from 6:30pm until 11:30pm.

“Everyone was really happy with the night and the reports on the decades were very well received,” he said.

Fay Phillis received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award – the Lions Club’s highest honour – recognising her outstanding work and achievements in 22 years. Mike Phillips collected the James D. Richardson Award after 30 years of service to the Lions Club.

District Governor Paddy McKay presented service awards to those who have contributed over 25 years to the Lions Club, while Jim Averis was presented with a 50-year chevron for half a century of service.

A certificate of appreciation was given to the Central Augusta Football Club for their ongoing support of the club.
